Characters-
By Lori Wright-
Art Department Chair and Assistant Professor of Art at KWU
Identity of an individual begins in the womb. As one grows their personality evolves and there true character is revealed. The transition of ones identity has fascinated me and dominated my artwork for many years. I am driven by the understanding that ones life as a child directly effects one happiness, personality and success as an adult. I enjoy visually documenting the past, particularly the actions, imagination and behavior of children.
Everyday objects that we interact with through our lives hold stories of our lives as well. From the clothes we wear to the toys we played with; we can connect with each item with a story from our lives. However, as we go through our lives, one cannot keep everything and not spend there days living in the past. One must grow, change and move on. The items and stories become the documentation of one’s true identity.
These particular paintings and prints are created to narrate the story of my child’s personality and to act as a journal to record the real and the make believe. I hope the overall concept that is told can be universal, as we all are characters in our own stories.
